High Intensity Workouts are my favourite way to train.
Each week I design new bootcamp ideas, fun team games, circuits & team challenges of all types for my Workout Design Club Elite members. A lot of my ideas are disguised high intensity workouts.
High Intensity Workouts are renowned for generating great results, this is partly due to the EPOC Effect.
This so-called “after-burn effect” is more officially known as Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption. Studies suggest there’s a strong correlation between the number of calories burned post exercise and the activities intensity.
The Thing About
High Intensity Workouts & EPOC
The EPOC effect was tested on 10 men who performed a vigorous 45-minute workout on a stationary bike. The after burn effect was measured in a metabolic chamber for over 14 hours, which revealed that the participants burned an additional 190 calories.
But that’s cycling, not a high intensity bootcamp class.
According to Claude Bouchard, the author of “Physical Activity and Obesity, Second Edition,” people who run at 70 to 75 of their VO2 — volume of oxygen consumed exercising at maximum capacity — can burn between 300 to 700 calories after completing high intensity workouts
And that does apply to a high intensity bootcamp class.
High Intensity Workouts Disguised
As Fun Bootcamp Games
Sprinting in its self is a bit boring in a bootcamp setting. So I got my sketch pad out and designed 2 really fun (yet pretty tough) EPOC style tag games. The aim being to burn as many calories as possible.
They’re great high intensity workouts, plus there are 100’s of different ways you can change this up.
The truth is..
Our minds are hard wired to seek pleasure and to avoid pain. That’s why I love designing high intensity workouts where people can workout hard without really noticing it.
In other words, because they’re having so much fun.
Members Only Training: EPOC Tag –
High Intensity Workouts Concept
If you beast your clients with boring bootcamp drills week after week, you’ll always have your committed 5 or 10 who want that, but you’ll never ever have a packed out bootcamp.
You will always stay stuck with low numbers. Why?
Because the high majority of people do not want to be beasted with torturous drills and long lists of bootcamp exercises.
